Watching the Zebras
The season is racing towards its conclusion, and this is the last month of only regular season games. The next posts will be the end-of-season batch of individual teams and referees.
There was one referee making his Men’s Hockey East debut for the season this month: Andy O’Brien, welcome to the list.

And the monthly list of all major and misconduct penalties called during the month. We got our first Game Disqualification penalty of the season (Northeastern’s Cristophe Tellier vs. BU), and our first two bench Game Misconducts (both by Northeastern, against UML and BU).
January has come to a close, and we’ve started the meat of the conference schedule. Two more officials have added their first games of the season as HEA referees, Dmitri Antipin and Kevin McManus, and Tim Bennedetto remains the only official from last season who has yet to referee a Hockey East game this season.

December is always a light month for games, with the long holiday break, but there were a bunch of in-season tournaments at the end of the month to wrap up the last big wave of out-of-conference games before the conference schedule ramps up in earnest. Here’s the current year-to-date stats as of games played through December 31st.

Despite the lack of games, there were still a number of major and misconduct penalties, with December 7th setting the current season high for a single night with six.
We’re into the second week of the season, and the conference schedule has begun in earnest. Casey Terreri has made his first appearances of the season after not appearing in the 2023-24 season and only one game in the 2022-23 season, working a pair of non-weekend games (a Thursday and a Tuesday).

There were 21 major or misconduct penalties called during November, all but two in conference games. Here’s the list of all of them:
We’re back for another season!
Through the first month of the 2024-25 season, we’ve seen two new referees take charge of men’s Hockey East games – Ryan Siegel and Michael Zyla, and one referee from last season – Tim Benedetto – has yet to take the ice for the conference.
Below is the table of statistics for all of the referees. Since there have only been a few conference games played, we’ll wait until next month to start posting that table.
